З вихором Другої світової війни Леонід опинився «остарбайтером» у Берліні, в'язнем у Потсдамі... Після війни розгортає літературну працю, редагує з Леонідом Лиманом журнал «Школярик», видає першу поетичну збірку. Леонід Полтава працював в українських редакціях і радіо Мюнхена, Мадрида, Парижа, Вашингтона... Писав вірші, поеми, новели, балади, пригодницько-фантастичні повісті, історичний роман «1709» (з доби Івана Мазепи), п'єси, лібрето для опер і оперет, кіносценарії...
На моїх полях –

Тисячам доріг.

Леонід Полтава помер 19 квітня 1990 у Нью-Йорку.

Yet another finding in the Ukrainian National Museum’s collection of men's embroidered shirts. Among the many shirts only one had the owner’s name inscribed on the shirt itself – Leonid Poltava (real name Parkhomovych). The owner was a talented poet, playwright, translator, journalist, publicist, children's writer, public figure, member of the underground revolutionary group - Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) in Sumy region, Ukraine - Leonid Poltava. He was born in Vovkivtsi, Romny district, Sumy region, Ukraine in August 24, 1921 and died April 19, 1990 in New York. Ironically, this patriotic and talented individual did not live to celebrate his 70th birthday, nor Ukraine’s Independence (August 1991) which he dreamed of and fought for so long. This dream he nurtured throughout his life in passionate and powerful writings. Being away from his native land, the Ukrainian intellectual and great patriot took on his mother’s maiden name Poltava and manifested it proudly and with dignity. With the whirlwind of World War II Leonid found himself as an "Ostarbeiter" in Berlin, and prisoner in Potsdam ... After the war he unfolds his literary work and together with Leonid Lyman edits a children’s magazine "Shkolyaryk" and publishes his first poetry collection. Leonid Poltava lived for several years in Paris, Madrid, headed the Ukrainian section of the Spanish radio, later worked in radio “Liberty” in Munich, worked as a radio journalist in Washington, DC for “Voice of America” and edited a blog “Freedom”.... He wrote poems, short stories, ballads, fiction, mysteries, and a remarkable historical novel "1709" about the Ukrainian-Swedish alliance and the war with Russia, plays, librettos for operas and operettas, screenplays.
